Our Story
To advance students’ professional endeavors, the Oregon State Investment Group (OSIG) is asking for gifts toward its $17,500 goal to fund its next trip to New York City. This trip is the hallmark of the OSIG program, providing high-performing OSIG members with opportunities to network and learn about a variety of financial careers.
“It helped me build connections and assisted me in realizing what I wanted to do as a career. I live in New York City now, and I don’t know if I would be [in New York City] if it weren’t for the trip.”
– Steph Miller, 2019-2020 OSIG President
Donor funding would be used to finance air travel, subway transportation, partial support for meals and hotel costs for the trip. We based the $17,500 goal on the cost of the 2018 and 2019 trips to New York City. Currently, OSIG does not have the funding necessary to plan for a future New York City trip.
Since OSIG’s inception in 2007, distinguished OSIG members have gone on this annual trip, through support from our generous donors. By the end of 2017, the funding ran out. In 2018 and 2019, OSIG trips were temporarily supported by the College of Business and the Finance Program. Your gift would be used to ensure that future OSIG members can have the same opportunities as past OSIG members who went on this trip.
It has become increasingly difficult for graduating students and alumni to gain access to opportunities for high-profile financial careers. This trip provides students with ways to network with recruiters and industry professionals to give them a better chance at landing a high-finance role. New York City also remains the financial epicenter of the United States and, as such, is the perfect place for students to be exposed to potential career paths. While the viability of the New York City trip over the summer of 2021 is uncertain due to COVID-19, when you give today, your gift will motivate students by allowing for the possibility of future trips when it is safe to travel. Thank you!
