Process

General operations

The Investment Group meets weekly on Friday mornings during each academic term. The meetings begin with performance updates by the portfolio managers, followed by sector updates from each of the sector leaders. After the sector updates, analysts provide stock presentations, and recommend either a buy, sell, or hold of an equity. Stock presentations (or "pitches") can be for an existing position or an initiating position. Following each pitch, the Group holds a Q&A session. Each member of the Group then votes and must include justifications for their decision. Portfolio managers are responsible for trade execution.

Financial Modeling and research report

OSIG utilizes several different valuation methods to calculate the intrinsic value of an equity.
  1. Discounted Cash Flow
  2. Comparables
  3. Historical P/E
  4. Residual Income
After completing relevant financial modeling, analysts then complete a full research report on the company. These reports include an investment thesis based on a calculated intrinsic value, an overall financial analysis of the company, and an assessment of industry forces.
